Nothing beats live music in the summer sun and there is no better place to do this than down under baby! Australia is home to a shit load of dance and live music festivals and over the summer it can get quite hectic with so much on offer.
Expect heaps of internationals acts plus an outstanding selection of local Australian dj’s and producers - the line-up on offer is really nothing short of spectacular. Hint - for the latest info on line-up changes, etc., it’s worth keeping an eye on In the Mix, pretty much the number 1 source for Australian music events.
Keep an eye out for our a Wicked Vans too! We often get people hiring for events such as Strawberry Fields, Splendour in the Grass and various bush doofs up and down the country. If this is something you’d be interested in, then get in touch: 1800 24 68 69.
Here’s a list of some of the most popular festivals to check out, (I’ve also included a calendar to help you out a bit). Whether you’re a complete novice to the scene or a seasoned veteran, there will be something here to tickle ya fancy.
Big Day Out
The original daddy of Australian music festivals. Big Day Out is seen as the king of the summer festival circuit, with main stages focusing on rock, hip-hop, alternative and electronic music.
Splendour in the Grass
Splendour in the Grass, located near Byron Bay in NSW, is arguably one of Australia’s biggest music festivals to date. Since its very beginnings in 2001, the festival has evolved from a 1 day, two day, and now three day event - with numbers of up to 30,000 in attendance. Holy crap it’s big.
Byron Bay Blues Fest
The Byron Bay Bluesfest, formerly known as the East Coast International Blues & Roots Music Festival, is an annual music festival held for five days over the Easter long weekend in NSW. Featuring a large selection of blues and roots musicians from across the globe, Bluesfest has grown solidly into one of the world’s leading contemporary music festivals.
Strawberry Fields is renowned for hosting fresh up and coming electronic music from Australia and overseas. With an attention for detail, eclectic market stalls, art installations, workshops and much more, Strawberry Fields is extremely popular with the indie, creative types, but also with people from all walks of life. Held annually over three days in November, I’d highly recommend checking this one out.
Future Music Festival
Future Music Festival is held every year, featuring events in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and now further afield in Kuala Lumpur. Notable acts include The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, New Order and The Stone Roses. Another very popular festival here in Australia!
Listen Out is a boutique national music event, presenting the finest dance music across 4 of Australia’s dopest venues. The festival prides to be different from its competitors, with a carefully selected line-up rarely seen on these shores. You won’t need to worry about timetable clashes or ridiculous missions to see your favourite artists - Listen Out provides a unique space different from the rest of ‘em.
Synonymous with New Year’s Day, Field Day is Sydney’s original multi-stage outdoor party. 25,000 people going wild. An eclectic, non-stop buzzing experience with an array of artists and musicians from across the globe. Artists include SBTRKT, Cashmere Cat, Action Bronson and Jamie XX to name a few.
Running for over a decade, Breakfest is one of Perth’s most popular Boxing Day festivals. Located in the beautiful surroundings of the Belvoir Amphitheatre, the boutique festival is organised by party crew Boomtick, notorious for hosting some of the sickest club nights and events Perth has to offer.
